Everything you need to know before scuba diving in Cancun

Is Cancun good for scuba diving?

Cancun offers magnificent diving sites with splendid visibility, warm waters and a wide variety of marine life. All dive sites are inside the Federal Protected Area. With more than 30 dive sites, the Cancun National Marine Park attracts divers year after year — you'll see snappers, barracudas, angel fish, turtles and many other species. Our certified instructors have more than 40 years of experience diving these reefs.

Is scuba diving better in Cancun or Cozumel?

Cozumel has beautiful coral formations, but if you're staying in Cancun, diving locally is the smarter choice. Reaching Cozumel from Cancun requires a full day: 1.5-hour drive + 1-hour ferry + sailing time to the sites, 2 dives, then the return journey. Cancun has 30+ world-class dive sites accessible within 10–20 minutes by boat.

How much does scuba diving in Cancun cost?

From $124 USD for certified divers and $149 USD for beginners — conservation fees, dock fees and full equipment included. No hidden charges.

How deep is scuba diving in Cancun?

Cancun dive sites range from 30ft (9m) at MUSA — perfect for beginners — to 55ft (16m) at Manchones Reef, 84ft (24m) at the C-58 wreck, and 100ft (30m) at Manta Valley for advanced divers.

Can you scuba dive in Cancun without certification?

Yes. Our beginner Discover Scuba experience includes a pool lesson and 2 dives — one at the MUSA Underwater Museum and one at Manchones Reef. No prior experience required. Children can dive from age 10 with a certified professional present.

Do you need a wetsuit to scuba dive in Cancun?

In winter (November–February), a 3mm wetsuit is recommended — water temperatures are 76–79°F. In summer, a rash guard is enough as temperatures are in the 80s°F. All wetsuits and equipment are included in your tour price.

Why is scuba diving in Cancun so popular?

  • Children can dive from age 10 with a certified professional present
