MUSA diving in Cancun is a bucket list dive for many certified divers, attracting people from around the world.
The Cancun Underwater Museum has a total of 500 sculptures, 487 by Jason deCaires Taylor, and the rest by five Mexican artists. The Manchones Reef Gallery by Isla Mujeres contains 477 statues, and the remaining 23 are in the Nizuc Gallery.
We dive the main exposition that includes the Silent Evolution.
The Underwater Museum of Art or MUSA is one of the most successful conservation projects in the world, MUSA has quickly become one of Cancun´s top attractions.
The project was launched in 2009, had the goal to create an artificial reef, and help the marine life restoration in the Cancun and Isla Mujeres area.
MUSA Diving will make your Cancun scuba vacation one of a kind. You can see the positive effects of this multilateral effort since some of the first parts of the Museum have already been overrun by reef formations and distorting some of the original pieces.
These new reefs are now home to a variety of marine wildlife, and colorful fish. You will be able to dive with all kind of reef fish and enjoy this pleasant experience.
Not at all, all our MUSA dives depart from Cancun.
The idea of the MUSA eco project began to take shape in 2009. The aim from the start was to make an artificial reef that featured sculptures made out of marine concrete. Initially, algae formed on the statues and then tiny polyps began to grow. As a result, many of the monuments are now caked in algae while others show off some incredible reef formations that make the facial features on some of the statues distort to look amazing!
The Cancun Underwater Museum main part is known as Silent Evolution. Here there are 450 statues with accompanying marine life and coral that is protected from inclement weather conditions. There were only two things in mind when the statues were created and placed here: conservation of Cancun’s existing natural reefs and provision of new fish and sea life havens.
After diving in the underwater museum we proceed to another dive on Manchones reef with more than a mile of coral formation and the house of turtles, stingrays, moray eels, angel fish, dolphins and all marine life that make the site one of the most beautiful dive sites to scuba dive in cancun.
This phase of construction was completed in 2013 with plans to add 1,200 more pieces in ten different dive sites around Cancun.
During our MUSA experience 2 tank dive, you will also be able to dive in one of the best reefs in the Cancun and Isla Mujeres area, its called Manchones reef where you can enjoy diving in a natural setting. The Manchones Reef is a beautiful dive site located just 5 minutes away from MUSA in front of Isla Mujeres, don’t miss the opportunity to do this incredible diving experience.
